Curro Bankenveld Independent School participates in the pellet dissection project

Emalahleni, Mpumalanga

We have just added the Curro Bankenveld Independent School on to the largest National Owl diet Database that we are currently building in Africa. We have worked in collaboration with the Endangered Wildlife Trust - Owl Project and the Middleburg Bird Club to educate the learners about the importance and benefits of owls.

We would like to thank the Mafube Coal Anglo America for sponsoring the owl boxes that have been installed at the school.

Without education, there can be no conservation.

Here is what the teachers have said about the programme below:

The High School members of our Bankies Land Service Club spent an afternoon with very special guests, sharing our value of Love for Nature. Mafube Coal, Endangered Wildlife Trust, Owlproject.org and the Middelburg Bird Club joined forces to introduce our learners to their amazing owl conservation programme. Learners were given the opportunity to learn more about these fascinating animals and had a chance to dissect owl pellets and learn about their eating habits. We are especially proud of and thankful for the installation of two owl boxes on our school grounds, made possible by the above mentioned organisations. We aim to create awareness for these magnificent animals amongst our learners as well as in our community. We hope that this will be an ongoing initiative and the start of a long term relationship with the parties involved in the interest of our owls.
