Raising owlets at Crawford Preparatory Sandton
SANDTON – Crawford Preparatory Sandton learners have two new baby owlets.
The Crawford Preparatory Sandton eco department are in their 10th year of adopting two orphan baby barn owlets.
This initiative allows the schoolchildren help the owlets to grow and prepare them for release. This becomes a fantastic learning and researching experience for all our learners.
The owl rear, release and enquire programme through environmental education teaching, is in line with the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
The aim is to develop enquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
The learners at the school all submitted their suggestions for naming for their new friends who are now called Jelly and Tot.
Nina Bloom, art and eco department teacher, believes in a quote from Marco Lambertini, director general of the World Wildlife Fund and that is, ‘Humanity is completely dependent on nature for clean air and water, food and materials, as well as inspiration and happiness’.
